Renee's Lyme Medical Fund

Hello, My name is Renee Bassett. I was bit by a tick on Martha's Vineyard in the summer of '13 while on a family vacation..... Since then, I have been to doctor after doctor trying to find what is wrong with me neurologically, and we have spent thousands of dollars already on medical bills and tests. I had to quit my job as a successful creative director and spend most of my days couch bound and cannot leave the house. My symptoms are getting worse by the day.  I have recently been seen by some of the top Lyme doctors in the country and am getting intense bloodwork done. They are suspecting Lyme coupled with its co-infection Bartonella. The doctors have a very comprehensive and personalized Lyme protocol that is best for my recovery. They deal with patients that have basically run out of options and are critically ill. The protocol will encompass killing off pathogens, detoxifying the body, and building up the immune system.

The unfortunate part is that medical insurance will NOT cover my treatments. This is a very devastating thing for Lyme patients due to the fact that Insurance does not cover ANY treatment.  The reason for this is the lack of education on this disease, and that the CDC (Center for Disease Control) does not recognize Late Stage Disseminated Lyme as being real and requiring treatment. Insurance companies follow the CDC criteria on how to treat different conditions and considering that the CDC does not have a treatment protocol for this illness, the Insurance companies do not have to cover anything.

This will be a long journey ahead for me and my family. It is EXTREMELY expensive, but if I dont receive this care, I will become worse and worse, so it isn't an option at this point.

I will be forever grateful and thankful for anyone who finds it in their heart to support me and my family. I am praying for an answer and that God leads me to the right treatment and God blesses all that would help us on this journey.

Below is a letter from the Doctor that saw me recently explaining my situation further:

"Renee is an unfortunate 32 y.o. female here at Envita Medical Center for an initial consult with multi-system symptoms for the past 2+ years. Renee reports that she was bitten by a tick in 2013 and her signs/symptoms have gradually progressed since then. She had stressful situations about 6 months later and that is when she really noticed an exacerbation of her symptoms. Over the last 3-4 months her symptoms have progressed even faster. Renee has been to see many different doctors including psychologists and neurologists with little in the way of findings for an underlying cause. This has impacted Renee on an emotional/mental level for some time now. From her case history and intake it is in our opinion that Renee is most likely dealing with an infectious agent. We are highly suspicious of bartonella but will be conducting comprehensive testing to get a better idea of her infectious load and any other underlying factor in her health. Renee will be started on an oral protocol while she returns back to Pittsburg. There is concern with how fast the symptoms seem to be progressing over the last 3-4 months and emphasized this to Renee and Maureen and that treatment should be started as soon as possible."
