Renaissance F.C
Donation protected
Renaissance F.C is a football team for asylum seekers and refugees based in the UK. Its primary aim is to improve their physical/mental health & support their social integration.
After visiting and speaking to a number of refugees and asylum seekers they often:
-Lack support.
-They are placed in extremely rough areas with very few positive role models.
-They are often placed in the same housing as other asylum seekers, which means they rarely get opportunities to speak English.
-There is a lack of opportunities to meet people in the community.
-They report that people often stereotype them and and don't want to engage in positive communication with them.
-They ignored potential mental health issues and lack education around mental health.
Plan:
We will play matches against other inclusive and minority teams such as women's teams and charity teams. A social element will then be added to each match.
Aims:
-Increase the refugees/asylum seekers support network.
-Increase the opportunity to meet positive role models.
-Increase the opportunity to forge positive friendships with people in the community.
-Practice their spoken English.
-Improve their physical and mental well-being.
What the funds will go towards:
-Transport fees (The majority of the team live in Luton ,Bedford and Harlow and so have to come into London for each event.)
-Training and match facilities.
-Equipment (Bibs, cones, goal posts etc.)
-Educational trips and group outings.
