Remembering Sydney
Donation protected
On Friday 7/19, Sydney was taken to the hospital for an accidental overdose. Tragically, she was unable to come back and was pronounced legally brain dead on Tuesday 7/23.
Scott (her Father), being the extremely responsible man he is, had our family create living wills a few years back. Sydney's wish was that her organs be donated to save lives or for research purposes. As I write this, she is undergoing a final surgery so she can donate her pancreas, liver, lungs, intestines, kidneys (to two separate individuals) and her heart. That is the lives of seven people she will possibly be saving. Seven families who will still have their loved ones with them. But that was the essence of Sydney. She gave literally all she had to others.
In that vein, in lieu of flowers, we would like to request that people make donations to this fund. We will take all the funds raised and donate that money across a few charities that are important to Sydney and to our family. We are still determining who we will donate to but below are two places we have decided on.
- Sydney spent every Thursday night volunteering at a local soup kitchen/food shelf. Some of the funds raised will go to this.
- Scott is very involved in a charity called Open Heart Magic (more information below). Scott is a volunteer magician with them. He spends every other Tuesday, for about three hours, going from room to room at Advocate Lutheran Children's hospital bringing joy to children who are often scared or sad in addition to being sick. Sydney loved children and got a huge kick out of our dad's magic tricks, so some of the funds raised will go to this.
Something that has been so comforting to us over these past few days has been the pictures, videos, and stories people are sharing. Please continue to do so. If you could send them to [email redacted] it would be greatly appreciated.
