Remembering Julie Merko

On the morning of Sept 20th, 2018, the world lost a compassionate Wife, Mother and Paramedic. Julie was just 45 years old & leaves behind her husband, Mike and young son, Nicholas.

There are no words to describe the loss of a friend & colleague taken much too soon. The wings on our Ornge logo take on a whole new meaning today. We have all lost a skilled Paramedic, outstanding colleague & great friend. Julie was professional, patient, gentle & kind. She dedicated herself to both adult & pediatric populations in Ontario as an Ornge Critical Care Flight Paramedic most recently, but also made a difference in the lives of patients while working in Nova Scotia. We were all fortunate to have her. The loss is profound & felt country-wide, but not as much as her family will feel for a lifetime.

This account has been organized in order to celebrate Julie’s life, one dedicated to the service of others and to honour her memory.  She has left behind a family that must move forward in her absence, without the financial security offered by her determination & work ethic. It is the only worry we can alleviate at present. They will require the love & support of her friends and community.
