Help Bring Epic Art to Huntsville

Huntsville holds a very special place for us.

Hey there. We are Red Brick Strategies, a local creative agency. You may have heard, we're creating something epic in Huntsville.

Our idea is to create these awesome “forced perspective” murals all over downtown Huntsville. We completed the first mural, a 100ft long underwater view of Big Spring Park, and it looks incredible.

Downtown Huntsville, Inc. helped us create these murals, they even provided a grant to help pay for the some of the cost through their 'Something Interesting Downtown by PNC Bank' public placemaking program. Unfortunately, the cost of materials and supplies is greater than what the grant provided, even for this one mural, let alone the few other projects we are planning.

So we need your help. We want to continue forward creating these gorgeous murals. We can provide the time, and heck, we can even deal with a little out-of-pocket expense. We just want to make sure we can provide something awesome and not break the bank.

Huntsville is a very special place for us. There is a bright and talented community here. We want to surround people with art that challenges and engages people, and give people something to talk about in this place we call home.

And inspire people to think.


What Are We Up To?

The idea is to get people active and engaged with the art. The technique is called “forced perspective.” In a normal drawing, the artist interprets the 3D world on the 2D page. You are meant to look at it straight on.

Forced perspective is meant to be seen at a specific angle, making images appear to have depth. You become an active participant to examining the beauty of the art. This is the idea…get people active with the art, but you also interact with the area in a way you have not before.

We couldn’t put it any better than what Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said:

“Murals make our downtown more welcoming and walkable by giving us something beautiful to look at and something to talk about. A mural may inspire creativity or a meaningful conversation, and that builds community.”

We couldn’t agree more. You engage on a physical level. Your head brain gets to flex. It challenges you. We hope it will inspire not only others in our community to contribute. We hope other communities will be inspired.

(You gotta admit...a one-hundred foot, 3D mural painted entirely by hand is pretty epic.)

So glad you asked.

We are Red Brick Strategies, a local business here in Huntsville, and we like to wake early, crack our knuckles, then go back to sleep because it’s three in the morning and the alarm isn’t working right. We eat waffles for dinner because we believe breakfast should be served all day.

And cozying up to a nice glass of water. Stay hydrated, folks.

We call ourselves the “creative misfits.” We like innovative ideas and a good challenge.

We work here, we play here, and we live here. We get to see our big impossible dreams become a reality here.

Making downtown a bit more special, a bit more unique, a bit more interesting is the least we can do.
