Record CD with Youth Refugees

Donation protected
I have been leading music classes with unaccompanied youth migrants in two refugee camps in Syracuse, Sicily for two years. The migrants and I collaboratively compose music about their cross-continental journeys and new lives in Italy. Last summer, we played concerts in local venues in Syracuse to facilitate cross-cultural understanding with Sicilians. Next summer, we plan record an album to disseminate the artistic product of our cross-cultural collaboration.

The youth migrants and I need your help to fund our initiative of fostering intercultural dialogue through music. We hope to record an album of our original music in a Sicilian studio accompanied by professional session musicians. We will then contract a local videographer to produce music videos. Finally, we will organize a tour around Sicily, playing in live music venues and migrant camps around the island to promote cultural integration and mutual understanding between migrants and Sicilians.

With lofty traveling, living, and recording costs associated with this musical project, I will need some financial assistance. Your donation will go toward necessary equipment, like microphones, recording software, instruments for the migrants, and production of physical CDs (for migrant musicians and local listeners). Your donation would ensure that we get the amount of studio time necessary and professional mixing/mastering, hire the best Sicilian session musicians, produce music videos and physical albums, and organize a tour around Sicily. A complimentary copy of the upcoming CD would be given to all donors.

These meaningful experiences would culminate in a documentary of our story: unaccompanied African youth migrants, an American bassist, and Sicilian musicians coming together to make music in our shared home of Syracuse, Italy. We would show how music can be a tool to foster intercultural dialogue, express complex lived experiences, and celebrate the humanity and world we all share.

Your donation would ensure that this project be carried out to its full potential, make the most local impact, and garner the most international exposure. Thank you so much for reading and considering making a donation.
