We ask you to help Alex by donating towards therapy as recommended along with Rehospital Bills and living cost This is Alex’s story - Alex is a dear friend whom I’ve known for a few years now. He’s always been on of those friends you can count on. Alex worked hard slog with going to school to make a future for himself. On February 8th 2018, Alex begin what was believe to be an anxiety attack. It had overwhelmed him and his girlfriend so much that she called 911 because he was having breathing issues and also what seemed to be a whole lot more than an anxiety Attack. What they didn’t know was that Alex was actually having a seizure that caused his throat to close up leading to him suffocating. It took the ambulance 15 minutes to arrive. Alex was blue color on the face with no pulse or heartbeat. This event went on to change his whole life forever. The paramedics rushed him to the hospital and the doctors where able to revive Alex. With the time he was without oxygen he ended up in a coma for 3 days. No one knew what the outcome he was headed in. The doctors said that it could take up to 7 days for the brain to show any damage. When he came out of his coma his motor functions showed damage. He began having spasms and also couldn’t talk and he himself knew he’d never be 100% again. Alex at this point was at the beginning of recovery. 15% of Alex’s brain was damaged and damage was done to the cerebellum. He now has Ataxia which is an incurable/untreatable disorder which affects his muscle movement. Alex was hospitalized for 2 months and in that time he had to relearn everything he knew to regain even the basic tasks of talking, movements, taking care of himself. Along with that they started him in physical therapy where he has worked extremely hard to walk again 3 months after the seizure. He was then moved to another facility to continue therapy and medication management. Alex has regained his speech and it is improving as time goes by. His memory and thinking capabilities where not affected and he’s been aware the whole time. During this time Alex’s financial situation had become overwhelming. He is no longer able to work, pay his bills and for his home. Alex’s costs from the hospital, therapy, on going treatment has been overwhelming. He is in debt and his disability isn’t much at all to survive on. Just his stay at the hospital was a little over $150,000. Alex is now able to live at home along with the help of his girlfriend. He still has a long way to go to rebuild what was lost. He will never be able to drive again and can barely type on his laptop. His future to become a physician assistant is no longer a dream of his he recently told me. To hear this from a young man who is working so hard to become himself again is heart breaking. He is completely overwhelmed and his financial burdens are his biggest stress. As he continues to go to his doctor, specialists, therapy etc the costs are continuing to add up. During this whole process and after seeing several doctors and tests they weren’t able to pin point exactly what caused his seizure. He is now seeing an neurologist who specializes in seizures and Epilepsy. This has been a long road since February for him and to help him
