Reunite LGBT Refugee Family

Donation protected
Could you imagine being separated from your baby for two years, uncertain if you will ever see him or her again? For one refugee family who has endured far more than they should have, this is has been every day for them, not knowing if they will see their young son again. However, you can help us make a difference in this family’s life immediately. In the spirit of the holiday season and as concerned global citizens, please consider giving the most precious gift of reuniting a family with their child.

My name is Shyra and together with Indira Ghale, I run a women’s shelter for survivors of (sexual) violence, survivors of human trafficking, and women and girls that need a safe space before they return to society.

Two years ago, two young women, who are of a sexual minority from a Muslim country, had to flee their home because of societal discrimination against their sexual orientation and relationship with each other. Because one of the women escaped from an arranged marriage, her family now wants to kill her to save the honour of the family, which is an awful reality in the country they are from. For this reason we cannot identify them until they are completely safe.

In their harrowing escape from the family, they were forced to stay in many places before realizing that their country of origin was no longer safe for them. They fled to Nepal but they had to leave behind their newborn child, who had no birth certificate and papers and could not join them.

Together with a few well-wishers that wish to remain anonymous, we have supported the two young ladies, with housing, medical attention, and their successful application for emigration to Canada. Initiatives from across the globe have been involved, and we are filled with joy that they have finally managed to get a new chance and start their lives in a new and safe location.

However, their two-year old child who has been in the care of a friend, has not been able to join them so far. A medical clearance, maternity testing, transportation to the main city (from the rural area where he is currently cared for), as well as lodging are needed to secure a passport for the child, and then help him join his family. Because the child is so young, and the parents cannot re-enter their country to bring him to Canada themselves, a guardian must fly with him to their new home. The costs are estimated to be 3000 Euros, and this is the only thing that stands in the way of reuniting this young family.

Neil Horning and his wife Sonam Shah are accepting international contributions on our behalf, 100% of which will be sent from the US to us in Nepal via wire transfer to help this refugee couple. Neil has been a friend of ours for years and his been following this case since the beginning.

Once the couple are safe and sound, reunited with their son, we will be able to update the contributors to this campaign on their status.
