Rays of Sunshine for Lesa

Lesa Wharton has been a health assistant at Avalon Elementary School in Orlando, Florida for many years. The students, faculty, and parents adore Lesa’s warm smile and caring heart. Lesa never thinks twice about providing students with food, clothing, or a hug when they need it. She takes wonderful care of our students, so now it is our turn to take care of her.
In October 2016, Lesa’s husband Ray was diagnosed with a liver disease. The diagnosis meant that Ray could no longer work, forcing them to rely solely on Lesa’s income. Additionally, Ray required numerous trips to the doctor and hospital, forcing Lesa to take time off work. Unfortunately, Lesa’s income was not enough to cover household expenses and medical bills. It became necessary to depend on credit cards to survive. However, things began looking up when they were told Ray could possibly have a liver transplant.
Sadly, the transplant did not occur soon enough. Ray passed away on January 16, 2017. Without life insurance and Ray’s income, Lesa will be relying on her income to pay current bills along with credit card bills that were accumulated during Ray’s treatments.
Lesa and Ray were married for over 40 years. The last few months have been beyond challenging. Our goal is to raise enough money to pay off Lesa’s mortgage and credit card bills. We want to make sure that Lesa’s home is secure forever. That way she can focus on herself and her family without worrying about how to pay the next bill or losing her home.
