Thank you for your generosity!
Thanks to each of you for your generous donations to the Class of 2017's D.C. class trip. The students and teachers had an amazing time touring our nation's capital and creating memories they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Update:
Thanks to generous offline donations, we're lowering our GoFundMe request to $4,500. Thanks to all who have supported our efforts both offline and online. This GoFundMe campaign ends Friday, March 31.

Ravenswood Elementary
's eighth-graders have been working hard to raise funds for their class trip to Washington, D.C., but they need your help to get them to our nation's capitol.

For many of these students, this will be their first trip outside of Chicago. The D.C. class trip is a culmination of our students' history, art, social studies and language arts classes. The students hope to visit the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Smithsonian Museums, the U.S. Capitol, the White House, and the National Mall and Memorials.

It's important to our school that all the eighth-graders who want to attend this class trip can do so – regardless of each family's financial situation.

To ensure that, we're using GoFundMe to fund nine full scholarships and a few partial scholarships for the trip. An overnight coach bus will transport the students in both directions to allow for three full days in D.C. with two nights in a hotel. Trip costs per student are $669.

The students have participated in a fun run, hosted a movie night and a trivia night, and have sold pizzas and candles to raise funds for their trip. To date, the students and their families have raised about $11,000. We need about $18,000 to fund the scholarships and to lower the trip's costs to all families. Donations will go to Friends of Ravenswood School (FORS), a 501(c)3 organization that helps support programs at the school, and you will receive donor acknowledgment letter for your tax records.

The Ravenswood School community has been incredibly supportive of our fund-raising efforts this year, and we're looking to the broader community to get these students all the way to Washington, D.C. We want to give these students this opportunity. The kids are of mixed racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds (44.3% of Ravenswood School students live in low-income households with higher percentages in the upper-grade levels).

This trip will show our students how people from different backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs are all part of the United States.
