A Comfortable Recovery for Ras
Ras Johnson is our wonderful and much-loved friend and fellow staffer at Philly AIDS Thrift. Looking for something to do, Ras started as a volunteer at our thrift store, and quickly became a member of our permanent staff.
On January 7th, Ras was found inside his apartment, unconscious after going missing for several days. An ambulance was called and he was immediately rushed to the ICU.
We write this GoFundMe because he has suffered a traumatic brain injury and has been in intensive care at Hahnemann Hospital since. He has recently undergone major surgery and has begun healing, but faces a lengthy recovery which will include months of intensive physical and functional therapy.
Ras' mother, Palmeda, rushed from her current home in Atlanta and has maintained a constant vigil by his side. She is going to move back to Philly so Ras can finish his in-patient recovery and rehabilitation comfortably.

The hospital has gotten so used to the stream of visitors to his room that they don't even need to look up his room number when you say his name at the visitor desk. To many, he promotes a stern face and attitude. However, for those who caught a glimpse underneath his tough exterior, he is truly a passionate person who loves art, and classic music -- who is willing to defend all that he cares for. He's smart, funny and thoughtful (though he'd hate us saying that), but to be more precise, he is very smart, very funny and very thoughtful (and he'd still hate us saying that, but we want to tell the truth).
