Raleigh's Medical Bills

Tax deductible
Today was like any other Thursday,  Joey was going out to get Raleigh ready for his Childhelp visit. However the vet came out to do a procedure on a friends horse and that is when Joey noticed Raleigh wasn't quite himself. He laid down, now Raleigh lays down just not when it is time to get ready to go visit his favorite kids.  So, Joey took all of his vitals, hear rate, listened to gut sounds, and tempature. Everything looked good.  Just to be sure before we headed to Childhelp, we asked Dr. Sickler to do vitals and she got the same thing.  So we went to our visit.  When the visit was just about over I had to cut it short because Raleigh started to act uncomfortable and we had to leave.  Called Dr Sickler and she decided to go ahead with fluids and flush out his tummy because he did not go poop all day.  About 2 hourse after I got him home his belly blew up like a balloon.  So we loaded back into the van and headed to Southwest Equine Hospital.  The work up had doctors baffled because again even though his belly was about 6 times bigger than it should be he acted like he was trying to go to the bathroom.  We admitted him to the hospital and for three days without luck we tried to get him to go. After fluids, anemas and acupunture everyday it started to get scary because we knew he was trying and soon the intestine would start to die.  On Sunday morning he acted the most uncomfortable and we saw it in the Doctors face we had no choice but to go to surgery.  The surgeon was called in and the proceedure started.  An hour and a half later Raleigh was in the recovery.  The exploratory  celiotomy commonly called  "colic surgery" because his small colon was kinked and nothing could pass.

Day two after surgery we see a brighter Raleigh, in fact he is playful and wanting to eat accept we have some hurdles, possible infection due to the handling of the intestines and also balancing electrolytes.  This next week is critical, we will be adding food back into his system, which creates a risks and watching very closely what comes out.

Now comes the cost.  We knew that with all of Raleigh's symptoms and vitals he would be a good candidate for surgery.  We did not base it only on an emotional decision.   The success rate was very high.   So the decision to move forward with surgery was made.  Surgery alone was to be $5,000.00-$7,000.00, that doesn't include the Equine Hospital stay which will range anywhere from $2,000.00-$4,000.00, again depending on his recovery.  Then we will have special care at home.  Joey will be there most of the time however we will need to hire someone to stay with Raleigh for the time that Joey has to take the other therapy minis on visits.  Kids, seniors and veterans still need us.  That will cost us approximately $500.00.   We have put a deposit down, but in order to take Raleigh home his bill will need to be paid in full.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!  We have until a week from today, our deadline is May 1, 2017. Please help us raise the money to ensure Raleigh a happy and safe recovery.   Thank you in advance for your consideration.
