About the RAIZVANGUARDA Exhibition


Our Organization
RAIZVANGUARDA (RV) is a 4-year-old non-profit art organization with an artist-in-residency programme. RV works on supporting cultural events in rural Portugal as well as abroad. The residency is placed in rural Portugal where many artists come to experience the authentic Portuguese village as well as the beautiful nature surrounding the residency. The most attractive things about RV is the location of the residency and studios, the surrounding nature and RV´s yearning to promote culture and art and share that with the Portuguese people. RV is very international and artists come from all over the world to experience what RV has to offer.
RAIZVANGUARDA´s exhibition aims to promote local Portuguese artists and to expand the artistic network in Portugal.
If you choose to support RAIZVANGUARDA´s project, you will help the Portuguese art community immensely by giving artists an opportunity to share their work with like-minded and you will contribute to the survival of non-profit organizations such as RAIZVANGUARDA which concerns itself with cultural and artistic projects on a local and international basis.

What We Need
To launch the event, RV will need approximately 700 euros, which will mainly be used for promotion, such as posters, leaflets, and flyers needed to promote the event to an audience as wide as possible in Coimbra and nearby regions. Other general expenses include participants artwork catalog, transportation bursaries for artists to support their travel costs to and from the exhibition to ensure that the project is accessible for artists from a wide range of economic backgrounds, artist description plaques, beverages for the opening of the event, insurance for the venue amongst other practical details.

The Impact
As mentioned before, RV´s purpose with this event is to promote local, Portuguese artists and to attempt to get the local people involved, both in rural as well as urban areas. The general theme of the exhibition will be ‘roots’ and the works displayed at the event will aim to express what ‘roots’ mean to the individual artist. For RV the concept of ‘roots’ means that we select only Portuguese and Portugal-based artists, even though RV is generally a very international organization, as a way to reconnect with RV’s Portuguese roots.
RV is a quite successful residency, but we would still like to expand our network within Portugal and work with galleries and other cultural platforms to be able to offer a better promotion for the artists we have in our residency programme and to expand our options of generating even more cultural events and perhaps to get to a point where RV can make an annual exhibition with the same concept. That is - to support and promote local Portuguese artists.

If you are not able to give a financial contribution, RV is always looking for other ways to promote ourselves, our artists and our other exhibitions. We would like to share our campaign with anyone who’s interested in supporting or participating as an artist. In addition, RV is always looking for possible collaborations with artists, musicians, organizations etc. If you have any ideas, RV would love to hear them!
