Rainshadow Organics needs a new greenhouse!

Six days ago, Rainshadow Organics lost their biggest greenhouse at the end of a huge winter storm in central Oregon. This farm was started by Sarahlee Lawrence’s parents more than 25 years ago, she converted it to an organic farm 10 years ago. They were finally getting on their feet and growing as a sustainable, small farm, wanting quality of life in all things, and food4all - selling directly to the consumer through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Our farm really needs their community’s help now!
As I write this, it was one week ago that Sarahlee and her mom cleared what they could reach without a snow rake, but when they woke up the next morning they saw that it wasn’t enough. During the storm they had prioritized the animals, clearing snow for the cattle herd, the pig herd, the chickens, the house, and helping their neighbors - animals and humans first. That morning was -6 deg. F with 38 inches of snow on the ground. Sarahlee treated the fuel in the diesel trucks and tractor, then headed out to the greenhouses. Seeing their biggest greenhouse collapsed was a real gut shot to the family. Her husband, Ashanti, drove to town to borrow a snow rake from Seed To Table Oregon. They have 18 greenhouses, they grow food year round and they’re set to harvest the March CSA to deliver fresh greens in the winter to all of us.
A farmer must not dally, they take immediate action. Snow rake in hand, they cleared the rest of the greenhouses as quickly as they could. Now they’re taking immediate action to rebuild what they lost, which is where they need our community, and everyone in support of small farms and community supported agriculture to help.
