Growing up in the mountians of Boone, NC in the early and late 90's homophobia was all around, during this time i felt alone and isolated. the only openly gay student in my High School at the time i was picked on and beaten up, with no one to talk to, or at least that could relate to my situation. Over the last 15 years I have seen numerous teens and young adults with no place to go because they have been rejected by their families. Even with as far as we have come in the last few years the fight for equality is not over, and untill it is there needs to be more places for LGBTQ youth and young adults to go. My vision for Rainbow Wings is a LGBTQ shlter for thoes in need along with a mentor program to help guide the next generation of LGBTQ youth. No matter the distance I will assist thoes in need within the paramaters of the law to have a safe roof over their heads (driving personally if i have to).
The fact is regular shelters are poorly equiped to begin with and are not safe for members of the LGBTQ community; they do not provide a safe place to store belonging while indivuals are seeking employment/working/at school, and rarely do they teach the indivuals valuable life skills to help them when they are on their own. Rainbow Wings will do all of this and moe if given the opertunity. We are a registered Non-Profit orginization 501(c)(3) so all donations are tax excempt. I can and will provide proof of our 501(c)(3) status, i have nothing to hide. Anyone who makes a controbution ove over $10.00 will be listed on our home page as a donor for one year. Controbutions can be made one time or monthly, every cent helps. A quartlery status report will be offered to anyone who would like to make monthly controbutions by way of an email unless notified that you do not wish to recieve one, and anyone who makes any controbution will recive one update by email (email address must be listed). i have scouted out locations and have decided on Norfolk because it is central Hampton Roads but without funding we can do this. As a community i know we can get this project funded and running within the next few months. without your controbution this will not happen.
