Rad Ladies in Chicago

Once upon a time there was a rad gal named Mikaela living in the beautiul city of Ogden, Utah. She loved her little corner of the world, from the restaurants on 25th Street to the miles of mountain trails in her backyard. She thought it would be a neat idea if she started a rad group for other rad women in Ogden to get together - to talk about all the nifty things to do and offer support to one another.

So, that's what she did. At first she invited her fellow mom friends and soon realized that every awesome woman in her community could benefit from the collective power the women of Ogden possess - old or young, married or single, gay or straight, mom or no mom. Thus, Ogden Rad Ladies was born. Monthly potlucks and online conversations were their jam.

Then, four years later another rad lady by the name of Candice happened across the group and jumped right in. She saw the collection of about 300 women and believed it had the potential to be much, much more than just a small Facebook group that met once a month to eat and drink wine. She saw the potential for a larger, more connected, more intricately involved community made up of the most amazing women Ogden has to offer.

Together, Candice and Mikaela and their newfound partner, Pamela, came up with a mission statement for Ogden Rad Ladies. They have each spent hours and hours of their own time working on growing this community . Now, 6 years after it initially began, there are over 1,700 women and growing. There are now a number of smaller, more intimate groups that meet and connect regularly - a book club, pickleball league, coloring group, craft group, hiking group, dog group, board game group, and many more.

This group has changed lives. The connections made have offered support to community members in need. They have donated carloads of much-needed items to local charities. They have volunteered at community events. Whether it's looking for suggestions on where to find the best gyro or needing recommendations for a lesbian-friendly gynecologist - this group offers a safe space for the women of Ogden to connect.

Now comes the next exciting step for this fantastic little group in Ogden, Utah. The admins of Ogden Rad Ladies have been invited to attend a Facebook summit in Chicago from June 21-23, 2017. They will have the opportunity to attend workshops and learn about new ideas to help grow and manage the group. They will meet with group admins from all over the country - learning and connecting. And they'll bring what they learn back home and use these tools to make Ogden Rad Ladies and the Ogden community even more awesome than it already is.

This is an amazing opportunity and they need your help in getting there. Each of these women manages the group strictly on a volunteer basis. They are mothers, students, small business owners, one single mama and two wives. They will each need to take time off work, cover childcare, and arrange for their travel to Chicago. The goal has been set at $2,500 but that amount may be adjusted depending on the planning of their trip. If anything, it will likely be less than originally anticipated.

If every member of Ogden Rad Ladies donated just $2 we would meet our goal no problem! THANK YOU for donating, sharing, and supporting this group of RAD WOMEN!
