What is Radical Romance
Radical Romance is a proof of concept short film, written and directed by Sophie O'Gorman. It's a socio-realist thriller in a time where a matriarchal dictatorship has been instituted.
We see Fisen, a deserter of the special forces, being hunted by a faction of his old unit. He hides in the apartment of his friend Sarah, who is a teacher and a radical. We follow them as they fight the corrupt system.
The Story is set to explore a world where gender roles have been challenged, where men wear skirts and dresses as a way to be better accepted (just as women wear masculine clothes as a way to fit in now). It is a Matriarchal dictatorship that is run by elites living with their own rules. There are pockets of growth in the communities where people can find work and go to school. But can these freedoms be preserved or will the elites try to have them destroyed?
Sophie’s Story:
Sophie is a writer/director studying at RMIT. Radical Romance is her final year project. She has been researching feminism and social democracy in the oppressive climate of 19th century France. She hopes to inspire not only that humanity includes all types of gender expression, but that that economic freedom is everyone’s right, and not just for CEOs and the elites.
What we need from you:
Filming is not cheap. The money you give us will go into Three different categories:
Crew
Firstly, we need to feed our crew well, so they can focus on making the best film they can. There will be an extensive rehearsal period and a shorter shooting schedule which will mean having to feed both cast (including a big extras scene) and crew over about 5 days.
We would also like to hire some key crew positions that will ensure the smooth running of the rehearsal and shoot, such as professional assistant camera and grip crew. We need an efficient set to get everything done. If there is extra cash we would like to pay the crew for their artistry and skill. We would like them to be able to continue to continue to create great films.
Post production will need your help so we can hire a sound designer who can focus on our project without having to drop it for paid work. Sound will be so important for ensuring continuity of the story because there are sounds happening off screen and there are some complicated soundtracks to work into the edit.
Props and Set Design
We want to give you an immersive experience when watching our film. We are working with a great Production designer and she needs money to build convincing sets and create costumes. We want you to immerse yourself in the film. She also has a daily charge to attend the shoot and ensure that the sets are correctly set up and costumes are worn as designed. It is this attention to detail that helps us create a convincing story.
Distribution
Any extra money would be spent on submitting our film into film festivals and attending them. If this happens, you would be part of the team that delivers a hopefully award winning film.
