Rabies Vaccine Project

WHO WE ARE
We are a husband and wife team who currently reside in Florida, but have strong ties to Malawi and Zambia. In 2017, we traveled to Malawi and Zambia and held two rabies vaccine clinics in rural communities. We partnered with local vets and worked with goverment officials to vaccinate 542 village dogs. The turn out was overwhelming.  We had a limited number of vaccines and could not accomodate the need in these areas. We made a commitment to return and vaccinate more dogs in 2018. Everywhere we traveled people were asking for help. We heard from a policeman at a roadblock that three girls in his village had died the previous week from rabies. He begged us to go to his village. Unfortunately,  we could not. Our 2017, vaccine clinics were a start, but there is so much more to be done. Please help us end rabies in these communities. No child, adult or canine should die from this devastating disease.

THE PROBLEM - 99.9% FATAL
Each year rabies kills an estimated 59,000 people, many of whom are children living in Africa and Asia, where 95% of deaths occur. Rabies is 99.9 percent fatal and 100 % preventable. It is on the World Health Organization's list of the 20 Neglected Tropical Diseases and continues to afflict the worlds poor and vulnerable communities.

THE SOLUTION - 100% PREVENTABLE
Most human deaths are caused by a dog bite, however human and animal suffering can be easily eliminated with rabies vaccinations. Sustained vaccination of at least 70% of dogs in an area creates herd immunity and eliminates canine transmitted rabies.

HOW YOU CAN HELP - VACCINATE. DONATE.

We need assistance buying medical supplies and help with the transportation of those supplies. Our goal is to help vaccinate 5,000 dogs with the help of an expanded team.

Supplies include the vaccines themselves, the syringes, the needles and the certificates.

In addition to providing rabies vaccines, we aim to deworm all vaccinated dogs to reduce the load of hookworms, whipworms and roundworms in the general community.

Learn More - EDUCATE

We currently donate to the Washington State University Eliminate Rabies program in addition to holding vaccine clinics in central africa. More information about the impact of rabies worldwide can be found at their website which is:

THANK YOU
Thank you for considering this project. During our journey we heard stories of a rabid dog getting into a classroom, stories of children dying from rabies because of a dog bite, and the week before we arrived in Zambia the government came in and shot all village dogs that were not tagged. We were actually surprised so many dogs showed up to be vaccinated given the cull the week before.

We know this project works, please help us put a stop to the end of unneccesary deaths of humans and canines. Your dollar can buy a vaccine that can end rabies. Please consider donating just a dollar. We have applied for 501(c)3 status under the charity Community Health Coalition. We hope to be able to offer you a tax deduction for your donation in the near future.
