Hello Family and Friends,

My name is Ayanna Preston and I have been accepted to Howard University for the 2015-2016 school year. In my years of high school I have done many adventurous things:

My freshman year, I joined the cheer squad at my high school and was an active member on Leadership where I served as treasurer. I was also involved in the Young Entrepreneur’s at HAAS Program at UC Berkeley where I learned how to create a business plan and public speaking. This was also the year I fell in love with Biology.

My sophomore year I remained on both Leadership and the Cheer team, still participated in YEAH activities and became an intern for the NOVAS program through N.A.S.A. The goal was to incorporate visualization and arts into science. I was able to partake in scientific endeavors while executing my natural affinity for art.

Junior year was tough: I was facing SAT's and ACT's while still being in the YEAH program, I was representing my school at National cheer competitions with my squad and delegating as an active member on the junior class leadership team. IT was this year that I became involved with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated GEMS and became a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated Debutante. I was becoming polished, poised and prepared to not only begin applying for colleges but training to enter the world as a young lady. The summer of junior year, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go to Matagalpa, Nicaragua with the Global Glimpse Program. We did community outreach as well as taught English to the locals while there. It was a summer to remember.

As I entered Senior Year, I viciously applied for colleges while being the lead Pharaoh of the Black Student Union at my high school as well as the Secretary of the Associate Student Body Leadership team. I also had my Debutant cotillion and strengthened the bond with my Delta GEMs sisters, as well as took 3 AP classes.

I highlighted all of this to say, I have worked very hard to get into my number 1 choice HBCU, Howard University. I am so proud and doubly excited to be on my way to reaching my goals of majoring in Biology, pre-med, with the long term goal of becoming a neuro-surgeon. While the first part of my dream is achieved, I ask you to help finance my dream by supporting me through donations. As a child of a single mother, my accomplishments have not come without sacrifice. I owe everything to God first and my mom who has supported me. Please support my dream of attending Howard University
