Nibbler (my cat) NEEDS EMERGENCY SURGERY!!! Please HELP! Peeing blood!
This is my baby, Nibbler. He is a sweet, playful, extremely loving and snuggly 2 1/2 year old cat that I adopted almost 2 years ago (All of my pets are shelter rescues).
He was RUSHED to an emergency vet literally screaming in pain and dribbling blood. It turned out that stones are scraping his severely inflamed bladder. This was a total shock to me. I brought Nibbler to his vet last December with symptoms of a UTI. Despite a slightly abnormal urinalysis, the vet failed to recommend the typically ordered additional testing that could have prevented this emergency. An X-Ray or sonogram could have shown the issue brewing. Now Nibbler is paying the price, after not having a visible symptom of anything wrong for months.
He was admitted on Good Friday evening. They catheterized him so he could pee and they could 'flush' stones out to collect for analysis. At first it was expected he would stay for 2 days on the catheter and IV fluids to flush his system and get the inflammation under control. But he was still so inflamed after the catheter was removed Sunday that he couldn't pee, and he had to have another catheter inserted late that day to prevent his bladder from bursting.
The only solution is Perineal Urethrostomy surgery, which will cure this condition. This is a very major but successful surgery, almost the equivalent of a sex change- but it will prevent his urethra from ever blocking again and enable him to live a full and normal life. He will remain in the hospital after surgery for at least 48 to 96 hours, until he is stable, peeing on his own and his pain can be managed without heavy-duty IV drugs. The cost of this is staggering.
Nibbler's emergency care, surgery and initial follow ups will cost at least $5000, which includes 2 days of 24-hour hospital care after the surgery. The vet is providing a substantial rescue discount because of my situation, but of course requires the bulk of the bill to be paid first, and the balance before bringing him home. In the meantime, he must remain in ICU, catheterized and on IV fluids and pain meds. Fortunately he is such a mush that he is getting plenty of attention from the staff there, who love him too. He is safe for the short term, but he cannot remain in limbo with the extra ICU care bill growing every day. I need to get him into surgery QUICKLY! I was hoping to have him healing at home by now, but I must delay further to scrape together more funds. I simply cannot bear to let Nibbler suffer and possibly die due to a temporary financial situation.
I rarely ask for any type of help. I am supporting the household singly and have always given my pets the best food and medical care without help, even when costs ran high. But my resources have been completely tapped, I feel my back is against the wall and I have no choice. I couldn't even qualify for the Care Credit Card.
I cannot do it alone this time. THIS IS AN IMMEDIATE, LIFE-THREATENING CRISIS, and I do not have the funds to save him. So everyone, PLEASE...I need your help.
If everyone reading this donates just a few dollars to Nibbler's cause, his care would be covered! I know not many will help, and some can't... but PLEASE...If you can, PLEASE HELP NIBBLER!
