I’m posting this because I have no other options and am in nothing short of a panic. I’m not one to ask for handouts, especially when I make a mistake of my own fault, but my future is at stake and I have to fight for it any way I can.
On September first, I was in Philadelphia playing drums for a band on tour from Pittsburgh called Lotus Kid. Upon arriving, the engine in our van had started smoking and broke down, so after the concert we called a tow truck and waited for it reach us. While we were waiting, the photographer we had hired to document the tour and I decided to kill time by taking some artsy portraits in the building across the street that was under construction. Thinking we’d be in and out with no harm done, we went in and took a few shots. Very promptly after, three police SUV’s arrived to apprehend us. Terrified, quickly surrendered and cooperated trying to explain that nothing had been damaged or stolen and that we were just taking photos. The photographer and I were then arrested for “criminal trespassing,” which I learned to my surprise is a class 3 FELONY in the state of Pennsylvania. The photographer and I have never been in trouble with police and had no idea that, although it was wrong, what we were doing would ever be treated as such a serious criminal activity.
I am desperately asking for $2500 to pay for the services of the attorney that will be representing the photographer and I at our court hearing on September 19th so we can hopefully get these charges reduced or dropped.
