"Rose" Festival Fund
Hello! I am Edwin Miles, recent graduate in Film Studies from Falmouth University and the University of Bristol. It has been a month since I completed my MA and handed in my dissertation project, Rose. Having hosted a non-public screening in my hometown, Bewdley, and sent my film to friends and family, I feel it’s time to reach out and try and get the film as much exposure as possible. That is where I need some help.
The Project
Rose is my MA dissertation project, which explores the relationship between still photography and moving image. The film paints a subtle, intimate portrait of my Grandmother as the subject of my observational, short documentary. Watch the trailer below.

Importantly, I feel the film goes beyond a University project; Rose is also a family archive and a memorialisation. The film was a family project whereby my mother helped produce and my brother helped record sound which, overall, makes the film more personal and important to me. 
The project, also, has had some amazing, talented, young collaborators working on various aspects of the film and its promotional material. Ben Mowat, a composer I had worked with before, made a beautiful music track. My good friends, Zuhair Mehrali and George Wilson, have made the film’s posters and other promotional material which you can see below.
The Plan
In order to get as much exposure for the film (and for me as an aspiring filmmaker) I aim to send Rose to as many national and international film festivals as possible. I have a list of festivals (which include Sheffield Doc Fest, Aesthetica, and Encounters among many others) which I aim to submit Rose.
The film explores some heavy content due to my Grandmother's illness while also looking at ageing and the importance of the family. It deals with universal themes and does so by exploring film form and composition. By doing this I feel the film can offer something different and would be accessible to different people for different reasons.
After going on a festival circuit the film will be available to watch online so keep your eyes peeled.
