Mark Howard is a long time local cycling enthusiast who was stricken with a fatal lung disease known as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2014. At that time he was given a prognosis of 2--5 years to live.
There is nothing Mark would rather be doing than hopping on his bike to take a long ride with cycling friends he has met over the years. He has helped organize local cycling events, multi-day tours, as well as encouraged many beginners to take up his favorite sport. He continues to ride on an indoor trainer, supplemented with O2 as long as he is able.
He has hope of extending his life by receiving new lungs at Duke University Hospital. He and his wife Ava will shortly be moving to Durham NC to prepare for a 6 month or more. Mark must live around the medical facility during the process. Currently he cannot ride his bike outside because his lung capacity only allows him enough oxygen to manage flat roads. He uses a trainer and rides indoors. When he gets his new lungs, he will have to start cycling very slow, so an ebike would work perfectly for fitness. It is my hope to help Mark during this time. As his friends this would be a great way to help keep him stay active prior to the lung transplant , and help him build his strength afterwards. Please HELP FUND an electric bike for Mark.
