"K-BASS MUSIC" New Album Promotion

Donation protected
Greetings:

My name is Bassirima Soro, or, K-Bass, and I am writing to tell you about a fundraising event I am launching to support a personal musical project for 2018-19.

I am planning an aggressive promotional campaign to promote my new album “She is Beautiful” here in my adopted country, the US,  and in the Ivory Coast, the country of my birth. The immediate objective is to raise $10,000 for the following expenses: Mixing and mastering of the new album, plus two music videos (to be cast for July / August) to support this album, and another $10,000 for advertisement through tv, radio, newspapers, etc., to start in December.

It might seem odd to ask someone to make a financial contribution to a project of this type at this time, given the current economic climate, but I believe that any contribution, whether it be $5.00, $10.00, $500.00, or even 50 cents, would be one step closer to making someone’s dream come true.  If you do not wish to donate, I would just ask that you share this fundraising event to all of your social media networks - Instagram, Twitter, etc., so it can reach as many people as possible.  Actions like these are worth remembering, and you can be sure that I will remember your blessings when you extend your hand at a time of dire need to help support my project.  I will forever be grateful for your helping hands, but before making your decision whether or not to support my cause, please read the personal story which led me to feel the need to ask for financial assistance.

As I said, my name is Bassirima Soro, alias, “The Barefoot Runner”, six time winner of The Tucson Marathon, also known as “K-Bass” to my music fans.  I am the lead singer / songwriter, and founder of “K-Bass Music”, and I also work full time as a Licensed Practicing Nurse. “K-Bass Music” has been entertaining the Tucson Community for more than 10 years, has played in almost every major venue in Tucson and further afield, and has been ranked the number one band in the Pop Reggae Style in Arizona for the past five plus years according to Reverbnation's chart, the largest musician based internet website.

With no financial backing at all, one of my songs, “Believe”, from the Album “Faso” has brought “K-Bass Music” to third place in the US and seventh IN THE WORLD, also according to Reverbnation, from February to March 2014. I am very proud of these achievements, but now it is time to expand internationally.   To hear hear "Believe" and many more examples of our music, as well as view music videos and television interviews, please visit:

My first three cds are also available for purchase from cdbaby.com.

Until now, I have personally funded all of my musical projects, which include three full albums, many music videos, a short film video, and maintaining an excellent live band, from my personal nursing income.  However, I had several major set backs in 2013. Back in the US from a successful business trip to promote my music in The Ivory Coast, I was faced with an unexpected divorce, while at the same time, I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis.  I also discovered that I had contracted Malaria while on my trip.  It was at this point that my entire life, which had been going so well and had been moving so quickly toward my musical goals, started going south. Instead, I was now fighting for my personal day to day survival.

As you know, no matter how amicable a divorce can be, the financial repercussions are enormous (student loans, personal loans, and living expenses that had previously been shared by two were now being paid by one…me).  Previously, my former wife had provided the additional support necessary to pursue my music and enjoy my family life.

Suddenly, Bassirima Soro, the famous barefoot runner, six time champion of The Tucson Marathon could not breathe or hold a sustained musical note due to the disease, Sarcoidosis.  Consequently, I was sent to UMC where I was placed in isolation due to a mis-diagnosis of Tuberculosis, despite my objections that the X-Ray result was not Tuberculosis, but was, in fact, Sarcoidosis. Then, having spent a week in isolation being treated for Malaria, and when all the Tuberculosis tests, including lung biopsy, blood and sputum were all negative, I was finally released, with a somewhat clean bill of health, but also with massive hospital bills.

I had a follow up appointment with Doctor Chako, a pulmonologist at NorthWest Hospital, who treated me for about two years to get rid of the Sarcoidosis….yet more hospital bills.  In spite of the health issues and all the financial problems linked to the divorce and hospital care, I was finally fully recovered and back on stage performing live and creating music once again.

Then I sponsored a major project (a  costly endeavor) to bring four musicians (Solidarite Simpa) from Africa to Tucson to support “K-Bass Music” to entertain the Tucson Community.  In December 2017, I suspended all “K-Bass Music” live performances until 2019 to invest all my financial resources into my new album “She Is Beautiful”. I have currently created an album of twelve new and exciting songs for my fans and the world to hear. I’ve spent all I have to pay for musicians and studio time over the past six months.

In December of 2017 I almost lost my house due to a threatened for-closure caused by the divorce.  I finally managed to pay the unpaid balance and take over the house payments, as well as the second mortgage.  I only mention the house payments and second mortgage so that you might have a more complete understanding of the scale of my financial troubles. I have never defaulted on anything in my life and have always managed to land on my feet, however I have now reached the point that I need your assistance to help me face the biggest expenses yet to come (mixing, mastering, several different means of promotion including but not limited to: television, radio, newspapers etc…).

Like any business, large or small, cash flow and capital are are the key elements necessary for its survival. I would not be asking for your financial support if I did not believe in my art. I also have over 50,000 FaceBook fans, not to mention all the friends and fans we've made at all our live performances, who strongly believe in me and my music.  I fully believe that once the promotion of this album is done (and done RIGHT!) so that the world can hear this music, it will be the beginning of something major that will lead to an amazing record deal and / or financial sponsorship.

Without a record deal or a major financial sponsor, it is impossible for any artist to sell himself on the world stage. As a runner, I could just show up at any major event, totally unknown, and win the race alone, but the music industry is very different. I have more than 50 songs that I have written, arranged and digitally recorded, but a television or radio station does not just play your song if you ask nicely.  Artists have to pay (and pay handsomely!) for airplay.  If you hear a song on the radio several times a day, know that artist payed THOUSANDS of dollars for the privilege!  It is one thing to create your art, but success of that art will depend on how effectively you present it to the people - strong promotion is key to the success of any artist.

As you may know, Bob Marley’s greatest album, “Legend”, was a combination of a lot of songs from his previous albums that were published when he was completely unknown to the world. Many of these songs were fast, upbeat songs that the engineer of “Legend” changed in some way.  For example, “One Love” was slowed down quite a bit from the original version, and with that change, has since become one of his best loved and greatest hits.  The pop music star, Beyonce, had written almost 100 songs before any of them were recognized and she became the “Beyonce” that we know today. Who knows….from my more than fifty songs, one of them could easily become an overnight hit.  You get my point…..do all the hard work first and success will inevitably follow….

It is when facing life’s difficulties or obstacles that one really gets to know his strengths or weaknesses. We fight to survive in an arena that, it seems, is designed only for the rich to succeed, but like a gladiator, the only thing he has to lose is his life, so he will fight even harder to stay alive.

Overcoming complete poverty, I learned to fight to survive. Overcoming misery, I learned to fight to survive…..so, yes, success will come to those willing to fight for it.  So, please, brothers and sisters, let us face these challenges together to remove these obstacles from this path and clear the way to our success!

Sincerely,
K-Bass
