Fund Homeless Baristas' Pop-up Shop

Donation protected
Hi friends, my name is Jesse Lee from STREET COMPANY, a grassroots organizations of homeless people, gathering to serve their homeless peers and the city community in Lancaster, CA.

After our successful trip to LA for Coffee Festival, we are launching our first pop up coffee shop at "the BLVD MARKET", which is a farmers market in Lancaster. And are planning to expand our pop up coffee shop to other farmers markets and community events, such as Lancaster JETHawk minor league stadium. Not only we present our great coffee, but we want to share our vision and mission with the Lancaster community members with a cup of coffee.

We are doing a fundraising for this project. Any amount matters a lot to us. Please support our passionate homeless individuals who are dedicated to serve their peers and the community.

Here is how all this came about:

In 2016, I founded STREET COMPANY with my homeless friend Marco to create a supportive community of homeless people, hoping to overcome the situation together through sharing resources, ideas, and compassion. And we have had a weekly meeting on Saturday at a local park, sharing meals and building friendship with other local homeless people.

One day, we came up with this idea to open up a coffee shop where homeless people can work and use it as an opportunity to be back on their feet. We decided to select a person among the STREET COMPANY members to learn gourmet coffee making and teach other members who want to learn coffee skills.

In Summer 2017, with many people’s help and support, Marco was able to begin learning gourmet coffee making from a specialty coffee professional in downtown LA. In June 2018, three other members, Steven, Matthew, and Bobby stepped forward to learn coffee from Marco, hoping to devote themselves to create opportunities for their homeless peers.

That was the beginning of our great team “Founding 4”

Gratefully, in July 2018, STREET COMPANY found an office for rent and established the first coffee class for the Founding 4, having Marco as the instructor. Under the leadership of Marco, the team have been enthusiastically learning and exploring coffee making.

In the meantime, we heard about 2018 LA Coffee Fest and immediately thought we should attend, believing there will be so many things to learn and explore.

The Coffee Fest continues for three days (August 19-21). Founding 4 along with 2 other members will be staying in Los Angeles Downtown for 4 days & 3 nights for the conference.

Through the fund, Founding 4 will be able to attend the conference and move forward for their better future.

Here are words from the Founding 4 regarding the Coffee Fest:

Marco - “I started from scratch, not knowing anything about coffee… I have learned so much since then through a lot of practice and research. I expect to learn about things we are going to use for the business… I hope the conference will spark more team spirit and interest.”

Steven - “I love this project because it is for the homeless by the homeless. I expect to obtain a lot of information. And I am really looking forward to watch the coffee competition.”

Mathew - “I feel wonderful for the first time in a long time. I have happiness and a smile on my face every time I am with the team. I am excited in learning something new and having opportunity to make others smile.”

Bobby – “I am the PR guy; I handle the day to day management of the social media to share our vision with others. I will be focusing on watching and documenting the team at the Coffee Fest”
