My name is Kate Males and I am aiming to raise £5000 + to split between 2 charities close to my heart.  On the 1st September 2016 I am going to give up chocolate and diet coke to raise money to help International Aid Trust and the Rosemere cancer unit at Royal Preston Hospital.

Not a big challenge you may think but for me this is huge.  Diet coke is my go to 'wake up drink', my drink when I’m out, when I’m at home, where ever or whatever I've usually got diet coke in my hand.  I've tried to stop drinking it before but the headaches and mood swings from the caffeine and aspartamin comedown has been unbearable and I’ve started drinking it again.  Chocolate, as a cake decorator hobbyist and someone with a major sweet tooth is a huge part of my life.  Whether I’m happy, sad, celebrating, commiserating or just ‘because’ - chocolate is my go to food of choice.  Those who know me will know what a challenge this will be and to set it not for a day, a week or a month but a whole year will take more discipline and encouragement then I’ve ever needed before.

International Aid Trust is a charity I work for.  They do amazing things helping those less fortunate with humanitarian aid such as food, clothes and medical supplies in both the UK and Overseas.  They get a lot of support for their overseas work but little finances to aid their UK appeals.  Half of the money I raise through this personal challenge will go towards helping them continue their work, including the running of the warehouse and office, in the UK.  You can find out more about this charity on their website International Aid Trust

The Rosemere cancer unit at Royal Preston will receive the other half of the money I raise.  A couple of people in my family have been cared for by this unit which is run by volunteers.  It is a lovely suite with a relaxed feel and cafe run by volunteers offering support as well as refreshments to both patients and family and friends of patients.  I was touched by one of the volunteers when I attended the unit with a family member going through treatment as she saw I was upset and came over, sat with me and made me feel it would be ok.  These people do amazing work as I’m sure you can appreciate, as does everyone working within a cancer care environment but this one is close to my heart.  They need donations to ensure they can continue running the unit and offer the advice, support and service like I received.  You can read more about this charity at Rosemere cancer unit

There are millions of people in the world and I would be so grateful if you can support the challenge ahead of me and share my challenge to your family and friends and really get this noticed.  If it reaches 5000 people and each of those gives just £1 (instead of spending it on a chocolate bar or diet coke - ha-ha) to support me I will raise my target with ease.

I will be running this page for the full year and updating regularly with my trials, tribulations and pictures of torment to help keep you informed of my progress.

Any support you can give will be truly appreciated and I wish I could explain better how much these 2 charities mean to me.

THANK YOU!
