Queer(ing) Space: Exhibition
Queer(ing) Space is an art exhibition and participatory project conceived in reaction to the continuing closure of LGBTQIA+ nightlife spaces in London, but also in acknowledgement of the limitations of those spaces and their inability to cater for the diversity of our community.
The exhibition will provide a space for between ten to fifteen LGBTQIA+ artists to show their work alongside their peers in a safe and supportive environment, that prioritises queer narratives. We need your support to help with the cost of creating this new queer space, to a professional standard. I have a brilliant team of volunteers giving their time for free but we really could use some help with production costs including venue hire, printing promotional materials, hiring technical equipment, transport and exhibition materials. Any money raised beyond these costs will be offered an an honorarium for the contributing artists.
Help us put queer art and queer space on the map!
The exhibition will be held at Deptford Does Art in South East London, 27th February to March 1st.
Alongside the art exhibition is participatory project Queer Happens Here, which seeks to create an evolving archive of queer memories and histories. The photographs below are from a pilot event held at Queer Fayre in November. We were overwhelmed by the positive response and look forward to gathering and archiving even more queer histories at the exhibition in February.
