Hello,
I founded QOTU November 2016. It is an organization to give voice to sex workers of all levels.
It started out as a photo project, much like Humans of New York, where people tell their stories. I know a lot of women in the sex industry, whether it be in porn, escort, stripping, cam, street workers, and those that have been a victim of trafficking.
I wanted to learn why they ended up in the industry, what common denominators they had...and I found out that most of them came from a very unstable foundation; neglect, domestic and sexual violence, parents with substance abuse, mental illness, etc.
As I met with them, one by one, I discovered that their stories are very similar to mine. I felt so much empathy and compassion for them; I understand their suffering.
I know I needed to do something, something more than just photos of them. I had to help!
So, I began to do my research. I visited many non-profits, and although they are fantastic and very helpful to the community, they weren't a fit for my Queens.
I'm so grateful that through my experiences I am able to reach out to others and mentor them. The biggest gift is that they all love and trust me; with their stories, shame, regrets and hopes. Our first event was a Crown making workshop, held at a local community arts center. I am excited for them to interact with one another, form healthy bonds, and to have a blast bringing out their creativity!!. Their children are included in the activites also, which they are very grateful for as most are single mothers.
I am humbly asking for donations my Queens of the Underworld project so I can move forward with my short film and provide future workshops for them and their children. The next one will be a vision board making workshop, and if the director of the community center allows me, a guided meditation class I will lead to help ease the stress, worries, fears and anxieties of making changes in their lives.
My goal is to lead them to be independent, confident, self-assured and powerful women, and to be patient with their journey.
