Temple Beth Sholom Restoration Fund
Temple Beth Sholom was the first Synagogue in Chula Vista, California. It has been the only local Synagogue in the South Bay area for over 50 years. The building itself has been used for religous purposes for just over 100 years. It was built in 1914. It was previously a Christian Church before the early Jewish community of Chula Vista purchased it from the church and made it into a Synagogue. It has been a staple within the community and has always been a place the Jewish people of San Diego California, (especially the South Bay and Tijuana, B.C.) communities could count on being there. It was a special place that has helped many Jews to cope with the traumas experienced by the Holocaust, and was founded by many survivors, some who still attend! Over the years the founding Jewish community as a whole grew older and less able to take care of the upkeep of the building. Within the past five years, the synagogue has experienced an insurgence of new members who have begun to try to address some of the problems of this aging building. The costs and amounts of renovation needed are extremely high and are more than the synagogues current budget can handle or afford. We are asking all those who would like to share in helping this building remain as a beautiful Jewish landmark in the Chula Vista area to please donate for these much needed repairs. Our major priority is to first get the 3 buildings on the property reroofed. Much of the synagogue has been damaged by water because the roof is just simply giving out over time. The repairs are more numerous than we can mention here, but we are hoping to gain at least $250,000 for the building to begin handling the most needed repairs first. Thank you for your consideration. These are the type of issues that need immediate attention with this Synagogue. This is the reason for this campaign. Right now is a perfect time to give. Tzedakah given before the upcoming Holiday of Shavuot this weekend is an age old tradition. We need your help. Please give as you can.
So far our gofundme account has raised $500 towards our renovation needs! Thank you so much to all who have donated so far! This week we have had some roofers do a temporary patch job on the roof to deal with the immediate problem areas. This in no way solves our problems with the roof. This is just a band-aid to help with the problem as we search out funding to re-roof the synagogue. The good news is the $500 dollars was able to cover almost half of the work done by the roofers this week. Please share this page on all of your social media outlets. We need to spread the word. Temple Beth Sholom is in the hands of the community.
