The Lord has shown his glory in our lives in many ways--perhaps most amazingly through keeping us in the faith through tremendous sufferings and trials of various kinds. It is marvelous evidence of his grace that we are still trusting in the goodness and kindness of our loving King, the Lord Jesus Christ. Those of you who know us, know the story well:
2002: Christi placed on liver transplant list
2003-4: Adoption process
2005: Loss of all our possessions in Hurricane Katrina
2009: Liver transplant for Christi; 6 month recovery
2009: Christi hospitalized and diagnosed with Crohn's disease
2015: Adam's first 2 hospitalizations; surgery
2016: Adam hospitalized
2017: Adam hospitalized 2 more times; surgery, respiratory failure, massive blood clot
2017: Adam diagnosed with rare intestinal disorder--Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction
2018-current: Adam hospitalized; evaluated for Intestinal Transplant Program at Cleveland Clinic
Through all these things, God has comforted us, sanctified us, and provided for us in creative ways. And we are fully convinced that he will continue to do far more abundantly beyond what we can ask or imagine (Eph 3:20). He has taught us more and more how to bear faithful witness to him--not in spite of, but because of these persistent, remarkable trials. As others look upon our sufferings and observe our persevering faith and trust in him, more and more praises are gathered unto his name (2 Cor 1:11)--all because of the faith that he has provided to us in order to meet the challenges of these afflictions. What a marvelous plan to exalt himself! Though each of these bullet points carries many stories of pain and tears, we are humbled and honored to be used by God in such a plan.
As could be guessed, each of these trials has not only carried with it great pain and tears, each one has also carried with it a heavy financial load--quite frankly, too much for any one average family to bear. With Christi on several anti-rejection medications for life (and now on very expensive infusion treatments for Crohn's), and Adam's constant hospital admissions (and the growing likelihood of him needing his own small intestinal transplant!), the debt from medical expenses has become oppressive--and life-changing. That's what this GoFundMe is all about. Every dollar that we receive will go directly to pay medical expenses that we have already incurred, as well as premiums for the rest of this year (which alone are $1,499 per month).
We are confident that, just as he always has, our Good Shepherd will provide our every need (Ps 23). And while we are preparing to sell our home to cover these expenses, we are prayerful that we will not need to. Either way, It Is Well With My Soul.
