Help Derek Walk For The 1st Time

Hi, my name is Derek Hernandez and I am 9 years old. I was born with a condition called Congenital Arthrogryposis which affects my muscular and skeletal system. What does that mean? It means that for the 9 years of my life I have never been able to walk, run, swim or play baseball with my friends. I have lived my life getting around in my scooter since I don’t want to be in a wheel chair. I was born in the Dominican Republic so my mom and dad moved our family to the united states to find a doctor that will perform the surgeries that I need to be able to live my life as an independent boy that can walk to school and play sports.

My parents have been working non-stop, taking me to all sorts of specialists in many states all which have suggested we see Dr. Fernando Noriega in Madrid, Spain.

Here’s where you guys come in. I went to Spain with my parents to consult with Dr. Noriega and finally, after 9 years we heard great news! Dr. Noriega assures us that after a series of surgeries and months of physical therapy I will finally be able to walk for the first time. The surgeries needed and the months of physical training all amount to $150,000. My parents are still adjusting to the United States and have nowhere near the amount of money needed for my surgeries. Dr. Noriega said that I am still in time to have the surgery but he stressed how difficult and maybe impossible my surgery might be if we wait much longer.

My dream is to feel like every other boy in my school. We feel like time is running out and we need your help. Any amount helps and I am so grateful.

Que es ARTROGRIPOSIS CONGÉNITA ?

Significa que en los 9 años de mi vida yo nunca he caminado, corrido, nadado o he podido jugar baseball con mis amigos. 

He vivido mi vida en una scooter por que no quiero estar en una silla de rueda... 

Yo nací en la Republica Dominicana y mis padres trasladaron a nuestra familia a los estados unidos para encontrar un cirujano que me pueda ayudar a poder vivir mi vida como un niño independiente que puede caminar a la escuela solo y jugar deportes con los otros niños.

Mis padres han estado trabajando sin parar, llevándome a un sin numero de especialistas en muchos diferente estados cuales todos han sugerido que vaya a ver al 

Dr. Fernando Noriega en Madrid España. Aquí es que necesito su ayuda. Fui a España con mi familia a ver al doctor Noriega y por fin, después de 9 años hemos recibido buena noticia. El Dr. Noriega nos asegura que despues de una series de cirugías y meses de terapia física yo por fin podré caminar por primera vez. Todas las cirujias y los meses de terapia fisica tienen un costo de $150,000.00 

Mis padres se están ajustando todavía a la vida en los estados unidos y no tienen la cantidad necesaria para mi cirugía. El doctor dice que todavia estoy a tiempo para la cirugía pero si nos tomamos mas tiempo se le va hacer mas difícil y posiblemente hasta imposible. 

Mi sueño es poder vivir mi vida como todos los otros niños. Nos sentimos como que el tiempo se nos esta acabando para la cirugía y necesito de su ayuda.
