"You have Leukemia". Words no one ever wants to hear. Who would ever think going into the Emergency Department with symptoms of a cold only to then be told you have to be immediately flown by air-ambulance to Health Sciences North in Sudbury to undergo immediate chemotherapy treatment for this life-threatening condition. This is what happened to my beautiful, wonderful sister.
Karen Turner is a warm, giving, compassionate, loving kind woman. She is a mother and grandmother that loves nothing more than to be around her family, especially her 2 grandchildren who are 7 and 3 ½ years old. She is an Educational Assistant who is very passionate about caring and educating students. Karen and I, as well as our whole family would greatly benefit from your love, prayers and financial support at this point in her journey.
She is currently recovering from an intense round of chemotherapy and is waiting for arrangements to be made for her to be sent to Ottawa for a bone marrow transplant once a donor match is confirmed. Unfortunately, I have been ruled out as a bone marrow donor, but we hope there is a match out there. A transplant is the only cure for my sister.
Proceeds from this Go Fund Me campaign will go towards ongoing medical treatments and associated costs including accommodations, travel, and living expenses, as well as maintain her home and cover expenses here in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Any donation would be welcomed and accepted at present as Karen and Tony her significant other, will be required to relocate to Ottawa the end of November for a minimum of 5-6 months for ongoing daily care before, during and after the transplant. She will need to be monitored for infections and possible rejection once the transplant takes place. We have been informed by the Ottawa Hospital that estimated costs will be approximately a minimum of $10,000 for accommodations alone.
I want Karen and Tony to not have to worry about anything financially, so that they can both focus on Karen becoming strong, and cancer free. This news has come as a huge shock to our whole family, relatives and friends but we are all trying very hard to stay strong and positive in our faith that Karen will kick Leukemia’s butt.
This is the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I've never been in a position where I've had to ask people for help…so here it goes. I need HELP FROM YOU to help my sister. Any contribution large or small will be greatly appreciated. Please help me care for Karen.
