Rescued Kitten Needs Surgery
Donation protected
We are two students in need of your help! We have recently rescued a kitten named Meatball from the streets of Scranton, PA, only to find out he has been quite an expense. Initially he had a bout of Giardia (a tummy parasite) which has been successfully treated. He then started to breathe funny. After an initial visit to the vet, we came away with more medication to treat a possible cold/lung infection.
Today was his follow up visit for the cold. While the vet was examining Meatball, she said that she could not hear his heart on both sides of his chest. X-rays were done and we found out has something seriously wrong with him. There is a weak spot in his diaphragm (the muscles that separates your lungs from your intestines). This weak spot broke open & his intestines moved up from his stomach into where his lungs are supposed to be! That is why he is breathing so funny; he can't expand his lungs the whole way because his intestines are in the way!
The vet stated that this could have been due to Meatball being hit by a car or kicked by someone before we brought him into our home. He could have also been born this way. Either way, the surgery to fix it is around $2000.00 and involves a lot of medical attention. Otherwise, if we do not get the surgery for Meatball, we will become educated on signs to look for if he makes a turn for the worst. If this is the case we will need to put him down, even though he is not even 1 year old yet.
As stated before, we are two students living entirely off of student loans and do not have funds to get Meatball the surgery he needs.
Any help would be appreciated, as we are just trying to give Meatball the best possible life by providing shelter, food, water, and lots of love to our little buddy.
Sincerely,
Jessica & Liz
