5K run for the Walton Centre

Donation protected

On 24th January 2018 I suffered a large isacheimic stroke to the right side of my brain after collapsing on my bedroom floor, an ambulance was called and I was taken to a&e in the royal hospital where they carried out an MRI scan and found a blood clot on my brain. I was then transferred to the Walton centre which specialises in nuerology. I was put into a medically induced coma for 2 days while they performed a thrombectomy and removed 90% of the blood clot. This resulted it swelling on my brain and I had a weakness on the left side of my body. I was unable to hold things in my left hand and unable to walk. From the Walton centre I was transferred to the stroke ward in the royal hospital where I spent 3 weeks. During this time I learnt to walk again and worked on my left arm and hand. Now post-discharge I receive physio and occupational therapy at home and am constantly working to strengthen my left hand.
Now 6 weeks post-stroke I am able to walk around as normal and have started college again but have limited use of my left hand. Although you’d think 17 is too young to have a stroke, age was on my side in my recovery
I am choosing to raise money for the Walton Centre because it is the only department that specialises in nuerology in the UK and they are primarily the people that saved my life. I received a high level of care from the amazing nurses here (they even braided my hair and washed around my eyebrows so they didn’t wash off)
