Scheidler Family House Fire fund
It has nearly been one week since my house fire, when our heroic neighbor, Ludy McCollestor saved my family's life. If it had been two minutes later, it is unlikely any of us would have made it out.
Nicole was also a hero, after hearing Ludy at the door screaming to get out, she roused everyone and led them to safety. That is, everyone except me. I had fallen back asleep. Moments later, a firefighter woke me again and got me to leave on my own strength.
Although it will be a couple weeks before insurance submits the official paperwork, the cause of fire is officially unknown. A rebuild would start from the studs. Of the contents, nothing is salvageable.
Over the course of the week, we have heard more than a dozen stories where lives were lost. I cannot stop thanking God that we all made it.
If we have been struggling to make it over the past decade, the road ahead will certainly try us. We feel more support than ever, and we cannot hope but believe things will be ok.
The family is still learning new details from recounting the night's events. Just tonight, Nicole saw the pictures I took of the interior.... and she is glad she has not gone back to the house.
Presently, we are living in a hotel suite. Hopefully, soon we'll be able to move to an apartment where we'll live until we are able to rebuild or move into a new home.
We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from our neighbors, friends, families, parish; the kids' school, teachers, classmates, teammates, coaches; and of course all of Nicole's IUSB family. Notre Dame friends, faculty, staff, and colleagues have reached out with support and love, and so many kind words.
The recovery process is difficult, without a doubt, but we keep seeing how fortunate we are to be carried on the shoulders of giants. God is showing us His strength, power, and LOVE through the actions of the people surrounding us. Thank your from the bottom of our hearts.
I will be moving before mid-June and have many household items that I will no longer need. I invite you two to visit me before I have a moving sale so that you may take what you need. Tell Fr. David to contact me if you are interested. Vee
We have a very nice bassinet we would like to give if one is still needed. Please let us know where to drop it off.
I would love to help in any way that I can. Finances are tight, but please let me know if you need donations of anything else, such as food, clothing, toys, household items, etc. Private message me on Facebook, and I will do what I can. In my thoughts and prayers. :)
