Nation to Nation is a ministry to the Lakota Sioux on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. We have served the Lakota people for 17 years with a variety of resources, and Sharing Christ in Word and Deed with the Oglala Lakota People.
Nation to Nation is a ministry to the Lakota Sioux on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Southern South Dakota. We have served the Lakota people for 17 years with a variety of resources.
For the last two years we have been the benefactors of a wonderful program based out of Denver, Colorado that collects perfectly good, but decidedly excess, foods from grocery stores, restaurants, and stadiums to distribute to organizations who then provide to those in need.
Two to four times per month we load up personal pickup trucks and trailers with goods and complete the 6-hour drive to the reservation. This is considerable wear and tear on the vehicles because we want to provide the freshest food, as frequently as possible, and our trucks and trailers are loaded to the top. This food is then distributed to the Lakota with particular attention paid to the elderly and veterans.
Each trip costs between $300 and $400 for gas per vehicle using up valuable resources. For that reason our goal is to purchase a large box truck similar to the one pictured as soon as possible. We feel we could better serve the Lakota with a truck large enough to carry all the food in one vehicle and reduce our need for manpower, time, gasoline, and vehicle maintenance.
