...and Jenny! Please donate to help my old roommates at 45 East 7th Street get back on their feet. Their apartment was leveled in the East Village gas explosion yesterday and they have lost everything. 45 East 7th Street is the corner building, pictured here utterly destroyed. It is the residential address for 119 2nd Ave, quoted in the media reports. I lived with Norman and Chelsea for 3 1/2 years before moving out in July, and they are like my New York family. Micha moved in in January 2014 and is a new brother too! Jenny took my place in the 4th bedroom. No amount is too small—if we all donate a little bit, I'm sure we can make a real difference to each of them. They will be re-building their lives from scratch.

UPDATE:
Thank you SO much to everyone who has donated. I never imagined that this campaign would raise so much money so quickly to help my friends. We are all overwhelmed and inspired by the generosity of friends, acquaintances and total strangers.
We have surpassed my previous goal of $15,000. Hooray! I have created a new goal of $28,000 so that each of the four roommates will have $7,000.

Just to clarify: funding doesn't end today, but when we reach the goal. And Aiden McGeough, if you are questioning the legitimacy of this fund, no one is forcing you to donate. I listed their physical address quite clearly above in the campaign description. If it makes a difference to you, their apartment was number 3. I don't see what difference that makes—it's rubble now. This fund was set up in all kindness so that friends connected to me, Norman, Chelsea, Micha and Jenny could easily donate to help them. It started with our friends and then friends-of-friends, and then went viral so we have total strangers donating because they are good people and they care. If you don't know any of us, I don't know why you're bothering to post on here and stir up trouble. And quite obviously, nothing can be mailed to them at their former address. Look at the picture.

Very happy to be contacted to prove legitimacy of fund and those involved. I'm easily found via Google / Linkedin / Facebook (Tinder ;) ) as a way to validate real people that know those affected; so are many of the names you see pitching in over there on the right -->. Great work on getting this together.

Hi. I'm not sure what the questions are concerning legitimacy of this fundraiser, but I'm another personal friend of Norman's and I know for a fact that he lived at 45 East 7th, which was destroyed, and that he has lost all his possessions. And he knows about this fundraiser, and the funds are being split between the roommates in his apartment. Funding ends today.
