The city of Montreal is attempting to close down our beloved LaSalle Legion Branch 212 due to back taxes. Our Legion serves in keeping the memory of those who have made the greatest sacrifice to our country and providing the necessary aid to our vets. It is a staple in the LaSalle community and cherished by the people. Over the years the legion has become a second home to many and allows for a place to gather , share stories and a laugh. Most importantly it allows us to continue to support our veterans. It is disheartening that we are now facing our Legion being closed down by the city. The closure will be devastating to the community and all members and non-members who go. Sadly the city has giving us until November 4th the day of our Remembrance Day ceremonies to pay the back taxes or be closed down. Please help us keep LaSalle Legion so we can continue supporting our vets and providing a place for our seniors to come. Thank you.

Answers to questions
1) How many years back taxes is this amount?
Answer: The amount sown represents the 2017 tax year of $24,100.00 + the 2018 tax year of $30,000,00 + a contingency of $16,000.00 for incidental expenses (such as lawyer fees, fines for none payment, and late payment fees and interest.
2) Was the writing on the wall prior to 8 weeks before the shut down date?
Answer: The so called writing was on the wall for years, because as a not-for-profit organisation all monies raised are ear marked to be given away to a variety of organizations as mandated by Legion by-Laws, but when the city increased our taxes from $3000,00 a year to $30000,00 in one year back in 2013 this sped up the process and we have been fighting that ever since, through the legal system and by the rules as laid out by the government, but all has failed, our last submission to the Commission Municipale Quebec to have our tax status reinstated was filed on the 28th of June of this year and we have had no response from them since filing (we still await that answer), in the meantime we have been paying small amounts what we could afford to our taxes but the city of Montreal doesn't want that they want full payment, thus the last notice was sent about 10 days ago by regular post.
3) Is the current executive the same which were representing when the non payment of the taxes began?
Answer: Part of the executive is the same, but out of the original executive of 10 people only 2 remain from that group
4) What happens to the donated funds if you do not meet the goal?
Answer: 100% of the donated funds go the Legion in our efforts in supporting our Veterans and the community in which we reside, none of the money goes to any administration costs, all of us at the Legion Br 212 donate our time and monies to the Legion, none of the executive draws a salary.
