Connie Diane Nelson
November 19 1984- July 15 2019

My daughter Connie had more struggles in her life than most people will face in a lifetime At the young age of 20. At the age of three she struggled with abandonment. We took her in and fostered her until her mother’s rights were permanently terminated. At just the age of three it quickly became apparent that their were challenges. By the age of 5 we realized that we were not equipped to handle these challenges. But not wanting to give up we adopted her. It was through these years that we became educated on things that most parents would never even phase. On top of it, the outside world wanted to point their fingers and give advice they were not in any position to give. We very quickly learned what worked for most children did not work for Connie. And in effect she became her own personal weapon against us. It came to a matter of survival. It was heartbreaking for both Connie and us. Connie with all her problems never became involved in drugs much to our surprise. At the age of 19 she became pregnant and gave birth to a son named Jimmy. Long story short, while Connie went to bed sick one night at the prodding of her boyfriend assuring he would get jimmy to bed. (Who was 16 months old) , Connie woke up in the middle of the night with Matt flipping and flopping covering jimmys head with a pillow. She made the choice to go lay down with jimmy and upon entering his room at first glance she did not see him in his bed. As her eyes swept the room in search of him to no avail, her eyes returned to the bed and that is when she saw a jump under the sheet all nicely tucked in. As she struggled to reveal him she found his body wrapped from head to toe. Hysterical, Connie kept telling Matt to call 911 but Matt insisted on driving home. Without all detail Matt was put on trial as he told how he wrapped him in five different blankets. He went on trial but his mother worked for excellent lawyers. He was freed and sued the Lincoln Park police department and won 750,000 to say the least this destroyed Connie. She became schizophrenia. Words cannot describe the hell she has fought for 15 years! First it was alcohol and then it was drugs. Anything to numb the pain. In her quest to get better she was hanging onto god and the beliefs we have taught her. She told me that god was right there with her. Her worst was heroin anything not to feel. She has been clean for 2 years and still cannot deal with the loss of Jimmy. It was just too much. We made many attempts to help Connie but the pain was more that we could help. Today we got a knock on our door that Connie was dead. The depression and hopelessness became to much. As a believe I am trust in my lord that Connie fought so hard but she was only 20 years old when it happened. Unfortunately, her dad and I have no insurance on her and the reality is it takes money to bury the ones we love. Money we do not have. So I’m humbleness I am asking if god lays it upon your heart to help us give Connie what she deserves we would ever be so grateful.
Pray for our family! :(
