Urgent funding needed to repair Marlkawo housing!

We urgently need to raise $32,314 by 26th October. 

Running water, safe house and somewhere to cook!!!!

On Friday, 25th October THE FAIR TRADIES (tradies without borders) are arriving in the most remote outstation in West Arnhem land: Marlkawo. 

This team of professional tradesmen are generously donating their time. 

They are building a few outdoor shelters but we desperately need to fix up two community houses and make an outdoor cooking area that is protected before the wet season. Families want to live out here in the wet season and haven’t been able to for many years.

The families are living in two houses that are old and run down and need emergency repairs. It is amazing to have these skilled Fair Tradies coming all the way out here – we want to make the most of their time and talent but we need to purchase the equipment and get it out there in time.

This is where we need your help!

The NT  Government conducted a site visit on in August 2019 to assess Environmental Health conditions.

The report found 

"Tenants in house 1 & 2 cannot wash, cook or clean adequately under the current conditions." 

"The floor is structurally unsafe in several areas with the damaged tiled flooring posing a significant risk." 

"The water supply could be considered high risk as the quality of surface water cannot be guaranteed, due to the possibility of contamination from animals or other organic matter."

"Health risks from unprotected water sources can include salmonellosis, shigellosis, acute diarrhoea (caused by E. coli), gastroenteritis, hepatitis A, giardiasis and hookworm. “



We have exhausted all avenues to gain government support for these repairs before the wet season readily approaches...

The materials for basic repairs exceed $10,784.88
