Jaime's Fight! It's All Good!!

Hi, my name is Jaime, and I moved to North Dakota from the island of Oahu, Hawaii. I came here because of the man I met, Jared Fuchs. He lived in Houston, TX, and while there, was involved in a serious car accident, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury, and third degree burns on 30% of his body. He returned back to ND to continue to receive medical care and support from his family. He eventually went through an amputation of his right limb, and now uses a prosthetic. I moved here in October of 2004 and after almost 11 years consider North Dakota home. I am a 34-year-old wife and mother of two very energetic boys, 2-year-old Ikaika, and 4-year-old Kekoa. In October of 2014, following breast feeding my youngest child, I noticed some large lumps on my right breast. Thinking it was probably a clogged duct from breast feeding, I set up an appointment with my doctor to have the lumps checked. On May 20, I was referred to a mammography doctor and it was there that I was given the somber news, confirmed after a series of tests, that I had breast cancer. This was not a diagnosis that our family was expecting. In the weeks to follow, I met with several doctors at the Mayo Clinic who recommended the standard treatment for Stage 3 breast cancer, including chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, surgery, reconstruction and finally radiation. Because of the effects of chemo and radiation and the fact that I had previously lost a brother to cancer 16 years earlier, I chose to seek alternative treatment. I met with a Health Coach in Bismarck who was amazing and knowledgeable about alternative medicine for healing your body, even from cancer. She too had gone through some major medical issues and sought out a holistic doctor from Georgia. She introduced me to this doctor as well. I learned about his personal story of healing using diet and supplements as well as several others. In working with him, he gave me a full treatment plan that I will admit is very hard, but it lines up with the philosophy that your body can heal itself. The plan was that I would commit myself to the strict diet in hopes that my tumor would shrink and I would be able to have the double mastectomy without first undergoing chemotherapy. I followed the diet very stringently and on August 7th I had a follow up MRI scan done that would show if my tumor had shrunk. Unfortunately, we did not get the news we were hoping for. My tumor has now doubled in size and I have 3 more lymph nodes that have attached and the tumor has now attached to my pectoral muscles. My plan has now become very aggressive. August 24th I will have surgery to have a port installed so I can begin very aggressive chemotherapy treatment later that week. The goal is to shrink the tumor so I can have the double mastectomy as soon as possible. My family and I have moved in with my husband’s parents during this time as I will need assistance taking care of my young children. I know God has a plan for me and I am going to see it through. Thank you for all the prayers and support. God bless you.
