Sharpsburg Kitten's in Trouble

Donation protected
The cute little kitten you see in the photo is in deep trouble. It is one of several litters that have just been born on the property of an elderly woman with a home near the Dargan Transfer Station in Sharpsburg MD . Ms. Cynthia has been trying to spay/neuter and vaccinate the cats she has been caring on her property before any more have kittens.  She lives on an extremely limited income and does her very best to care for the kitties. But, as she saves enough money to get one cat spayed several others have had kittens. The population of kitties keeps growing and she can't keep up. She contacted PurrHaven and we are coordinating a resolution with 2 Frederick county Maryland rescues to quickly help this caring lady.

Game Plan: To be completed by June 15, 2017.
-PurrHaven will provide humane traps and recovery cages/trapping assistance.
-Tip Me Frederick will provide transport to Spay Spa Neuter Nook in Annapolis Maryland.
-Animal Welfare League of Frederick County will foster /adopt the kittens and pay for the mom's to be tested for FIV/ Feline Leukemia.

Funds Needed: 18 cats spay/neuter at the Spay Spa:
1.Surgery/ rabies vaccine and ear tip @ $20/per =$360
2.Feline Distemper and Parasite treatment @$5.00/per/= $90
3.Transport: 152 mile round trip from Frederick to Annapolis and back . $5.00/per = $90
4. Antibiotics ( injectible Convenia) @ $35/per. ( We are estimating 1/2 of the cats will need antibiotics ) =$315
Subtotal for 18 cats = $855

Cats MUST HAVE microchips so the owner can be called to get them out of the shelter if someone or animal control traps them and turns them in. Our county ordinace still allows Animal Control to trap and dispose of ear tipped cats.

5. Microchips at $25/ea = $450
6. Vet care and supplies for kittens attacked by dogs = $100
7.  5 FIV/Feline Leukemia tests $20/each = $100
Project Total for 18 cats and  kittens = $1,505

Why This Problem Here?
Washington County Maryland is underserved in terms of low cost, full service veterianarians. County funds for feral cat spay neuter do not meet the high request for funds from county residents. As a result, the trap and kill approach is the county's primary way of resolving feral cat overpopulation. People caring for multiple outdoor cats who live in this appalachian region lack not only the funds, but also the vehicles with the cargo capacity to transport multiple cats to the clinics in traps, and the number of traps required to humanely capture the entire colony.

Your donation is tax deductible and we are listed on the irs.gov website as an approved 501(c)3 charity.
