Puerto Rico- Help for Yabucoa

$4,625 of $5,000 goal

As you know, on September 20th Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico- it touched down (almost a category 5) in Yabucoa.  Even though some say that everything is fine on the island and there is help, we believe that help is going to San Juan (and its suburbs).  The truth of the matter is that our family/ the people of Yabucoa need help.  Currently, they are rationing supplies such as food, water, and gas.  They have no power and don't expect any for a long time.  They are washing their dirty clothes in a dirty stream, in short- these Americans are not living the American dream.

We have decided that we are taking it upon ourselves to deliver goods as we have been told many deliveries don't seem to be making it to the intended recipients.  Ralph is flying out on Monday to help in any way he can (mostly by delivering water, food, basic first aid supplies, and cash- no credit accepted).  We are also trying to figure out logistics to send a generator and more supplies (can't bring everything on the plane).

Many people have reached out to us to ask what we need.  Right now, we need support, specifically financially.  Any little bit helps and, is greatly appreciated.  If you want 100% of your money to go directly to the people then please feel free to send a check directly to the house(feel free to contact one of us for the mailing address).

Whatever is not used immediately will be used later- rebuilding an island takes time.  Thank you in advance for your love and support from both our family and our favorite isla del encanto.

Feel free to share!

What a great week! With the generosity and prayers of many, everything is coming together! On Monday we drove down to Jacksonville to meet a truck which was carrying generators, water filters, food, solar lights, etc. to be transferred to a ship sailing today to Puerto Rico. This was possible due to special assistance from the shipping companies (both truck and boat) and our dear friend in Jacksonville, Luigi, who helped coordinate this effort. An employee on the other end will receive the shipment and a cousin will go to the dock to pick it all up.
We also received a call informing us that seven packages that were mailed over two weeks ago arrived! It's heart warming to know that we're able to provide so much help to so many people due to your generosity. Words cannot express our gratitude!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! May God bless all of you!

To our family and friends (and their families and friends)
Most of you know that Ralph went to Puerto Rico last week to bring cash (credit cards and ATMs need power), food and supplies to his family and neighbors in Yabucoa, PR. It was the only way we could be sure everything got in the right hands and didn't just sit on the dock, the airport, or the post office. It was a very difficult week - to see what the people of this once beautiful island had endured - and are still going through. They still have no electricity (probably won't for months), intermittent running water (not fit to drink), some homes were destroyed, and their crops have been wiped out. The heartwarming part of the trip was to witness how they reacted to the food and supplies that he brought. He probably gave things to 15-20 families, but most of them took the little bit he gave them and shared it with their friends and neighbors.
While he was there, he made some connections, got some good mailing addresses, and now has a long list of things they desperately need. We mailed a box of batteries yesterday and five more boxes of solar lights, flashlights, and other miscellaneous supplies today.
Many of you have already donated to this cause and we are so grateful. Our job is not done and we ask you to continue your prayers, support, and getting this message spread to your friends and family.
If you would prefer to send a check directly to us please contact us for our mailing address.

Your support means a lot to us. Thank you so much!

Ralph & Chris Quinones
