A Movement for Psychosis Awareness

Donation protected
It excites me to update my campaign. Our project is called:

C.A.L.M.
CLEAR ANSWERS TO LOUISIANA MENTAL HEALTH
Helping New Orleans to better understand and treat psychosis.
http://calmnola.org/

I CHALLENGE US TO MEET THIS $10,000 goal

EVERY DOLLAR RAISED GOES DIRECTLY TO FUNDING THIS PROJECT BRAND BUILDING.

Often hearing the word ‘PSYCHOSIS’ makes people nervous and fearful, imagining scary images movies have inaccurately portrayed or people acting ‘crazy’.  The truth is that the people who most often experience psychosis for the first time are older teenagers and young adults, in the primes of their lives, with hopes and dreams of amazing futures ahead.

While I can treat individuals, I CANNOT reach the community at large in the way I envision. I need help. I want to see a MOVEMENT in New Orleans to become familiar with psychosis, unafraid, educated, and empowered to take steps toward EARLY DETECTION of this most important mental health need. This is the focus of my campaign.

I look to raise funds to fulfill a marketing proposal I have recieved from a group with experience in using well-known marketing tools to campaign for social awareness of mental health issues. mindmapct.org
is the premier example of what this campaign aims to achieve.

This proposal would create a website, use all forms of social media, wrap the sides of streetcars,  create tangible print material so myself and other volunteers can attend every festival and community activity to bring our message: PSYCHOSIS IS REAL, IS NOT SCARY,  IS TREATABLE, AND THERE IS A WAY MINDS CAN BE HEALTHY AND CLEAR.

This is not a one-time campaign.
The proposal design keeps this movement ongoing and evolving.

Further information:
Psychosis is defined broadly as having a break in reality, and in reality, is a terrifying and life-altering experience for those who it affects. Often signifying presence of a severe mental illness, such as schizophrenia, psychotic symptoms can be persistent, can lead to decline in psychosocial functioning due to paranoia and isolation, and can have an enormous impact on families and communities. Schizophrenia is one of the COSTLIEST mental health illnesses we have. Recent research, however, indicates that there is hope for improving outcomes for patients with psychotic disorders when we intervene early.

My career is dedicated to the care of these young people, and I want to see New Orleans able to talk about and have the tools to help reach those with this often hidden and stigmatizing symptom. Funding for this project means long-term community commitment to early detection of psychosis. EVERY DOLLAR donated will go DIRECTLY to the cost of the marketing services.

I aspire to make my funders proud, to keep my word and commitment. Launching this project would be the most humbling and gracious moment in my career.
