I'm Leah and I'll be turning 27 in two weeks. Every year I've always had some sort of party to celebrate. This year, however, I am giving up my birthday in order to give to the Rock Orphan Home in India.
There are over 31 million orphans in India alone. That's nearly the entire population of California. Because of extreme poverty, mothers are unable to afford to take care of their children. Most of the orphans are brought to the orphange around the age of 4 years old or younger and spend their lives growing up there. Rock World Ministries provides a place for the orphans to call home as well as receive the kind education they deserve.
Of the 31 million, less than 1,000 have made it to the orphanage. Rock World Ministries needs more help to sustain this place of refuge for so many children and to continue raising awarness in efforts to lower the orphan rate in India.
One of my best friends has been working hard with the ministry to help raise awareness. His latest project includes a documentary on the orphanage which will be released this coming May. Many of the children who have grown up in at the orphanage have incredible testimonies. Through this documentary we will get to see how much the Rock World Ministries has helped change their lives. The hope is that this will also reach more people across the nation providing further help that is needed to continue to impact and save more children's lives.
These beautiful children don't know life like we do. They don't know family like we do. It's easy to forget how privileged we are - just to have clothes on our back, education, job opportunities , roofs over our heads and people we call "mom" and "dad" in our lives.
This year, my heart has been decided. I don't need any presents or parties to celebrate my birthday. There are children on the other side of the world that simply need a bed to sleep on. They deserve a chance to know what love means, even if it doesn't come directly from their biological family. I'm choosing to give up my birthday this year to hopefully help make a dent in what these children really need - better health, access to clean water, opportunity to learn, clothing and food to simply live; pure love.
My birthday is March 18th. My wish this year is to raise over $2,000 to help the orphans in India.
I'm asking YOU to give $27 for my 27th birthday.
Join me in helping spread more love to those who need it most.
I am so thankful to have your support with this project and appreciate any amount you are able to give.
Sending love to you all,
All of the donations will be distributed in two ways:
- to help fund the documentary
- to help improve the living conditions in the children's rooms (ie, new beds, painting the walls, repairing structural damage).
