Greetings. Project Canefire is planning its annual work trip to the Dominican Republic in January/February, 2019. The ongoing, continued success of this ministry is because of the wonderful support of people like you. We have seen improvements over the years. Although life is better for some, abject poverty continues for so many others.
Water wells are at the heart of Project Canefire. Providing clean water is the most basic humanitarian act one can do to help those living in impoverished communities. Project Canefire plans to install 8 new wells this trip along with repairs to existing wells.
A planning trip was made in October to meet with the local pastors and inspect proposed projects. In addition to selecting well sites, thegroup plans to repair a church, help build a church and a preschool, build a small house and fund home improvements – like roofing materials and cement for dirt floors. Many of the homes are made of scavenged materials crudely held together. A cement floor over the dirt is greatly appreciated! Often these are buildings we would notconsider good enough to store our “stuff.” To them, it is home. People also benefit from a sewing project and the agricultural andmicroenterprise loans. A new Bible is treasured by those receiving one.
The $3000 I personally am trying to raise will cover the expenses of sending me on this trip as well as some supplies and materials.
