My name is Alexander A-train Dam and I am a professional dancer.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with arthritis in both of my hips.
It is a condition where the cartilage in the joints are worn out, making the thighbone and the hip socket touch.
This causes a lot of pain and lack of movement capacity. I can no longer dance or even walk without severe pain and limping.
Arthritis is usually seen in older individuals but due to my dance career and the stress this caused to my body I was diagnosed at the age of 27.
But there is hope for me!
Through surgery it is possible to cut off the upper part of my hip bone and replace it with a prothesis.
The prothesis that is custom in Sweden is generally for elder people where after surgery you can not maintain an active lifestyle. That would mean no running, jumping or dancing for me.
There is an alternative.
In Belgium they use a prothesis that is better suited for younger and more physically active people.
From this kind of surgery there are many examples of athletes coming back a normal physical and active life. For example tennis player Andy Murray, actor Jean-Claude Van Damme before his "epic split" and ice hockey player Masi Marjamäki.
I decided to make surgery in Belgium. Doing the surgery outside of Sweden requires me to pay for the whole procedure.
The surgery costs 25 000 euro.
My hope with this crowdfunding is to cover half of the expenses.
If 3000 people would donate 5€ each, that would give me more than I need.
In my situation, especially now when I can’t continue working, your help would mean a lot me and my future life.
I hope to continue living and dancing without pain!
I already have a date for the surgery and I will be asking for financial support until the end of June.
