The city of Boston, and cities/states all across the nation, have faced challenges with the battle against opioid addiction and has seen a substantial rise in the cases of overdoses associated with opioids. Many cases of opioid addiction begin with the prescription of pain medications after suffering an injury, whether it be from a car accident, a sports injury, or any other trauma/surgery. As Physical Therapists, we have been identified as the key health care professionals in providing safer, more effective pain relief techniques than prescription pain medications, or opioids.

In 2016, the American Physical Therapy Association, launched a campaign marketed as #ChoosePT, and is an ongoing effort to further emphasize and highlight the role Physical Therapy can play in reducing pain and being a key team player in the battle against opioid addiction. 

But more help is needed! And with the help of some generous donors, Boston Medical Center opened the Grayken Center for Addiction Medicine in the Spring of 2017--- an entity focused solely on providing a resource for addiction medicine development and to continue the battle against the nation’s addiction epidemic, and right here in Boston. The research and services at institutions such as the Grayken Center are crucial to overcoming the epidemic. 

This year the charity efforts of ProEx Physical Therapy, an affiliate of Professional PT, will help support the Grayken Center’s mission, as it echoes the values of Physical Therapists and the communities wishing to end opioid addiction/overdoses. We ask for your generous donation in the dollar amount of your choice. No amount is too small!
