Clean Water: Puerto Rico Life Straw
ATTENTION: We have received the $1200 + 202 more. We are excited to move forward with this campaign. Much thanks to you. We will move forward with purchasing the Life Straws. We will keep everyone updated.
During September, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Irma, but mainly Hurricane Maria. As we know, the damage to the island was detrimental to the citizens of Puerto Rico and the landscape.
Regular and clean water has become scarce. As such, many of the Puerto Rico residents have no choice but to drink from streams and rivers, now contaminated.
The cause of the water contamination is due to animal waste and other forms of harmful bacteria as a result of extreme flooding and rainfall. With contaminated rivers and streams, many of the residents have contracted Leptospirosis. Symptoms of Leptospirosis include kidney or liver failure.
My solution is to raise funds to purchase Life Straws , a personal filtration device that will allows:
1. Filtration of approximately 1000 liters of water
2. Removes approximately 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria
My goal is to raise enough funds to purchase 65 Life Straws. Life Straws cost on average $18 a piece, which could ultimately be given to 65 or more families. 65 Life Straws will cost approximately $1200. If we surpass our goal, we would like to use the excess funds to purchase other much-needed items (ie, Mosquito repellant).
My team of friends and I will hand-deliver these Life Straws (with other donated items), and educate the individuals on how to use them and the importance of it with hopes we can lessen the outbreak of Leptospirosis and other bacterial diseases.
Donations of every amount is greatly appreciated and helps us reach our personal goal in providing a water filtration system.
AS A THANK YOU:
Donations of $20 or more, will receive an 8x10 print of "Forgotten Saint" (signed and numbered) by Stephen Earley Jordan:
Donations of $50 or more will receive the above print PLUS 8x10 print of "Son of God" (signed and numbered) by Scott Kearns.
I return back to Puerto Rico tomorrow, November 1, 2017. It's bittersweet. I'm blessed and fortunate enough to have all of you support the PR initiative this past month and it has allowed me to bring many resources back to the island.
Please, as the GoFundMe Campaign promised, I would like to email you prints of the artwork via postal mail. Please email me your address at StephenEarleyJordan@gmail.com and I'll send you the artwork within the next two weeks.
I hope to hear from everyone who donated and thank you again.
Also, due to a few emails of individuals wanting to donate and advertise this campaign, I've re-opened the campaign again for a few days.
This will definitely help us in trying to purchase mosquito repellent. As I've mentioned before, I've had Zika, Chikungunya, and Dengue--all of the mosquito viruses and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
As of today, the campaign will officially close.
My goal is to visit a few stores today in hopes to negotiate better prices with managers. Otherwise, I'll order them on Amazon immediately.
Thanks again for making this happen so quickly.
