Prison Book Study

Donation protected
For two years, I have been facilitating a book study for a group of fourteen incarcerated men in a prison near where I live in North Carolina. They are hungry for intellectual stimulation, and extremely motivated. We meet once a week, and they devour every book they get.  The the books we have read prior to this include Viktor Frankl's "Man's Search for Meaning," Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables," Plato's "Allegory of the Cave," Angela Thomas' "The Hate U Give," Ursula LeGuin's short story "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas," Neil Gaiman's "Norse Mythology" and "American Gods," Sebastian Junger's "Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging," and we are currently reading "These Truths: A History of the United States."

When we finish "These Truths," I am planning a semester-long class on Greek Tragedy and PTSD, which they have been asking for for several months. We will be reading the following books:

     1. "The Iliad " (Homer)
     2. "Achilles in Vietnam " (Shay)
     3. "Sophocles: The Complete Plays "

I have enough money currently to pay for the first two books, but need about $100 to by the Sophocles plays. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!
